The strategic objectives <strong>of</strong> BIDS are crystallized around <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me <strong>of</strong><br />
generat<strong>in</strong>g credible policy oriented research on development issues fac<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Bangladesh and o<strong>the</strong>r develop<strong>in</strong>g countries along with streng<strong>the</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g<br />
research-policy l<strong>in</strong>ks to promote <strong>in</strong>formed policy mak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Bangladesh. In<br />
<strong>the</strong> pursuit <strong>of</strong> its strategic objectives, BI DS activities are multi-dimensional<br />
and <strong>in</strong>herently straddle several objectives:<br />
Promote excellence <strong>in</strong> policy research and extend <strong>the</strong> knowledge<br />
frontiers to facilitate learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> development solutions especially <strong>in</strong><br />
priority areas <strong>of</strong> development related to social well be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> poor<br />
and disadvantaged groups <strong>in</strong> society.<br />
Collect and generate socioeconomic data to facilitate <strong>the</strong> conduct <strong>of</strong><br />
analytical research on current economic and social issues and facilitate<br />
development plann<strong>in</strong>g and policy formulation by <strong>the</strong> government.<br />
Dissem<strong>in</strong>ate knowledge and research based policy options to <strong>the</strong> policy<br />
makers and assist <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> design<strong>in</strong>g credible development strategies for<br />
achiev<strong>in</strong>g economic and social goals.<br />
Expand outreach <strong>of</strong> research to civil society and o<strong>the</strong>r stakeh olders to<br />
help shape policy debates on key development issues, develop broader<br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g and consensus, and promote knowledge based policy<br />
agenda.<br />
