The objectives are to:<br />
Advise <strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>ister regard<strong>in</strong>g plans, programmes and activities for <strong>the</strong><br />
development <strong>of</strong> education <strong>in</strong> Sri Lanka<br />
Provide and promote postgraduate education <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> several specialties<br />

Conduct and promote studies on <strong>the</strong> education system <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g its<br />
performance, goals, structures, content and methodology and on <strong>the</strong><br />
social, economic and o<strong>the</strong>r aspects <strong>of</strong> education<br />
Initiate and promote <strong>in</strong>novative practices <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> education system,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g adaptation <strong>of</strong> technology for educational purposes<br />
Provide for <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional and general competence<br />
