Objectives<br />

To conduct <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary research <strong>in</strong> analytical and applied areas <strong>of</strong><br />

social sciences, encompass<strong>in</strong>g diverse aspects <strong>of</strong> development.<br />

To assist both central and state governments by undertak<strong>in</strong>g systematic<br />

studies <strong>of</strong> resource potential, identify<strong>in</strong>g factors <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g growth<br />

and exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g measures for reduc<strong>in</strong>g poverty.<br />

To establish fruitful contacts with o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>stitutions and scholars<br />

engaged <strong>in</strong> social science research through collaborative research<br />

programmes and sem<strong>in</strong>ars, and to conduct tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g courses and<br />

refresher programmes for university and college teachers and public<br />

functionaries.<br />
