y the program advisor. The mentor may be
present at this meeting.
If all is judged satisfactory, the dean’s office will be
notified that this requirement has been met. If
progress is not satisfactory, an individual plan for
addressing concerns will be designed by the
program advisor in consultation with the student,
mentor and appropriate faculty. This plan may
include additional meetings, mandatory counseling
with a licensed counselor or spiritual director,
tutoring (at the student’s expense), a reduced
course load, or a hiatus from the program. In
extreme cases, dismissal from the program may
occur.
Students working toward the Graduate Certificate in
Pastoral Ministry will schedule one progress review
meeting, to be held after the completion of 6
courses.
Students working toward the Pastoral Administration
certificate and the non-degreed certificate do not
have required candidacy meetings, although
optional progress review meetings may be
scheduled at the request of the student, mentor or
program advisor.
Program Requirements
Qualification for the Master’s degree is based upon
the successful completion of academic courses to
equal 54 quarter credit hours, mentoring experience,
field education and project in ministry. The
participant must have a minimum grade point
average of 2.5 at the end of the first year of study,
or the first 18 credits, whichever comes last, and a
cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 at the
end of each quarter thereafter. Degree components
are distributed as follows:
1) Required courses: LPS 300, 302, 303, 401,
403, 414 and 416; LPB 301, 302; LPP 305,
310; and LPH 302.
2) Electives: 18 credits.
3) Mentor conferences (60 hours).
4) Supervised field education.
5) Theological Reflection (either integrating unit
or intensive sessions).
6) Project in Ministry Capstone Experience.
Students preparing for specific ministries or
competencies within the Church may need to work
closely with diocesan offices and program advisors
for proper course and field education placements.
Some competencies, such as chaplaincy or parish/
pastoral administration may require additional
academic or ministerial training beyond the MAPM.
Students preparing to serve parishes as a lay
ecclesial minister (typically staff-level positions)
should be familiar with the Minimum Standards for
Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation in the Archdiocese
of Cincinnati, approved and published by the
Archbishop in 2006. Copies of that publication are
available from your parish, from diocesan offices
and from the LPMP office.
Graduate Certificate in Pastoral
Ministry
Applicants to the Lay Pastoral Ministry Program
who have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
institution may choose to complete the Certificate
curriculum at the Master’s level. Those participants
take the following Master’s level courses in addition
to an experience of theological reflection:
LPS 300, 302, 303, 401, 403, and 414; LPB 301
and 302; LPH 302; and LPP 305.
Participants may opt to complete the degree by
taking the remaining required courses and electives
at a later date, within five years of initial admission.
