LS 236 <strong>The</strong> Sacraments of Healing and <strong>The</strong>ir<br />
Celebration<br />
This course will examine the sacraments<br />
of healing: Penance and Anointing of the<br />
Sick. <strong>The</strong> course will demonstrate the<br />
organic development of the sacraments,<br />
flowing from the Scriptures and Tradition,<br />
and will address contemporary theological<br />
and pastoral practices in the areas of<br />
reconciliation and healing. <strong>The</strong> course<br />
involves a supervised practicum through<br />
which students learn how to celebrate the<br />
sacraments of healing and to become<br />
effective ministers of God’s mercy and<br />
healing. Prerequisites: CL 230 or LPS<br />

LS 237 <strong>The</strong>ology and Celebration of Baptism<br />
and Weddings<br />
<strong>The</strong> course will consider the development<br />
of the theology of baptism and confirmation<br />
within the Catholic tradition. Having first<br />
been called to follow Christ in baptism,<br />
many men and women continue their<br />
discipleship through the sacrament of<br />
marriage. Students will be instructed to<br />
celebrate these life-giving sacraments<br />
according to the Rite of Baptism and the<br />
Rite of Marriage. (Staff, 3 credits)<br />
LS 252 Liturgical Skills I: Basic Music and<br />
Vocal Skills<br />
This course provides group instruction in<br />
the fundamentals of music, musical<br />
notation, keyboard and basic vocal<br />
production. It also provides for the<br />
development of skills for musical leadership.<br />

LS 260 Group Voice I<br />
This practicum provides an opportunity for<br />
upperclassmen to pursue the fundamentals<br />
of basic musicianship and vocal<br />
production. It provides individualized<br />
instruction in the group setting. (DiCello, 1<br />

LS 261 Group Voice II<br />
This practicum provides the opportunity for<br />
advanced coaching in the singing voice<br />
and instruction on the role of the cantor in<br />
the liturgy. Prerequisite: P 260. (DiCello,<br />
1 Credit)<br />
LS 262 Schola<br />
<strong>The</strong> schola cantorum (choir) provides<br />
music for various liturgical celebrations in<br />
the seminary chapel. <strong>The</strong> schola’s<br />
repertoire includes choral music from a<br />
variety of periods and styles. <strong>The</strong><br />
learning objectives include developing<br />
vocal skills in a choral setting, singing in<br />
parts, and developing a sense of the role<br />
and ministry of the choir in liturgical<br />
celebrations. (DiCello, 1/3 Credit/Quarter)<br />
LS 263 Ministerial Chants in the Liturgy<br />
This practicum is intended for those who<br />
are preparing for the diaconate and<br />
priesthood. It provides in a group setting<br />
individualized instruction in singing the<br />
altar chants, seasonal as well as those<br />
regularly recurring. (DiCello, 1 Credit)<br />
LS 264 Chorale<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Athenaeum</strong> Chorale provides the<br />
opportunity for choral singing in both the<br />
concert and the liturgical setting. <strong>The</strong><br />
Chorale sings for a number of liturgical<br />
events which include Sunday Vespers, the<br />
annual Advent Lessons and Carols and<br />
occasional Archdiocesan liturgies. <strong>The</strong><br />
Chorale also presents choral concerts in<br />
the fall and spring which often include<br />
larger choral works with orchestra.<br />

This course will provide an overview of<br />
