• 1. network device level - by taking advantage <strong>of</strong> bugs or<br />
weaknesses in s<strong>of</strong>tware or by exhausting the hardware<br />
resources <strong>of</strong> network devices.<br />
– a buffer overrun error in the password checking routine. Using<br />
this, certain routers could crash if the connection to the router is<br />
performed via telnet and extremely long passwords are entered.<br />
