Part-time Visa Students<br />
Visa students enrolled in Engineering, Engineering and Management and<br />
Nursing courses were assessed at $248.00 per unit tuition fee up to 17 units,<br />
plus supplementary fees <strong>of</strong> $4.43 per unit. Visa students enrolled in courses<br />
for all o<strong>the</strong>r programmes were assessed at $182.00 per unit tuition fee up<br />
to 17 units plus $4.43 per unit supplementary fee. .<br />
Residence and\ Food Service Fees<br />
REGULAR SESSION<br />
Residence fees for students living on campus cover <strong>the</strong> period, Labour<br />
Day to <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> April examination period.<br />

The <strong>University</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong> right to use <strong>the</strong> rooms during vacation<br />
periods, and <strong>the</strong> charges do not include <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> room or <strong>the</strong> cost'<br />
<strong>of</strong> meals during <strong>the</strong>se periods, unless arrangements to <strong>the</strong> contrary are<br />
made.<br />
Students will be assessed for unwarranted breakage.<br />
SUMMER RESIDENCE<br />
<strong>McMaster</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers reSidence, with centralized washroom' facilities,<br />
to men and women <strong>of</strong> all ages from early May to late August each<br />
year. Only single occupancy is available unless a specific roommate is<br />
named.<br />
Room rates include bed linens, weekly service and weekly linen<br />
change (but n9 towels). Parking is extra.<br />
Stays <strong>of</strong> less than one month are subject to 5% Provincial sales tax.<br />
A cash key deposit <strong>of</strong> $10.00 is collected upon check-in.<br />

Payment <strong>of</strong> Fees<br />
Full-time tuition fees and residence/food plan' fees are payable in<br />
full during <strong>the</strong> registration period in August/September. Prepayment <strong>of</strong><br />
fees will significantly simplify <strong>the</strong> registration process (see below Prepayment<br />
<strong>of</strong> Fees). Students unable to make full payment at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />
registration may be registered by paying <strong>the</strong> minimum first payment<br />
which is equal to approximately 70% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total fee. at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> registration,<br />
and <strong>the</strong> balance no later than January 24. Failure to make payment<br />
by January 24 will result in a late Instalment fee. Interest is added<br />
monthly to <strong>the</strong> unpaid balance.<br />
Part-time fees must accompany registration.<br />
Cheques must be made payable to <strong>McMaster</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Any cheque<br />
not accepted and returned by <strong>the</strong> bank will be subject to an additional<br />
administrative charge <strong>of</strong> $25.00 first occurrence and an additional<br />
$10.00 each subsequent occurrence. Failure to comply with payment<br />
dates will result in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> adding interest at <strong>the</strong> rate <strong>of</strong> 1.5%<br />
per month on overdue fees.<br />
In addition, refusal to pay fees, or any part pf <strong>the</strong> fees, may result in<br />
<strong>the</strong> student being refused admission to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> or being requested<br />
to withdraw with all privileges suspended. Fees to <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> withdrawal<br />
will be assessed. Students wishing to re-register within <strong>the</strong> same academic<br />
session will also be assessed a reinstatement fee.<br />
No student may be eligible for any e}(iamination results, transcripts,<br />
diplomas or <strong>the</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> awards <strong>of</strong> any kind, until fees and any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
accounts owed to <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> are paid, or until acceptable arrangements<br />
are made. Note: Effective November 1, <strong>1991</strong> Graduands who<br />
have outstanding accounts 'with <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> wiH be permitted to attend<br />
convocation but will not receive <strong>the</strong>ir diplomas until such time as <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
accounts have been cleared in full.<br />
PREPAYMENT OF FEES<br />
All tuition, supplementary, residence and food plan fees and any debts<br />
from prior sessions should be received in <strong>the</strong> Busfness <strong>of</strong>fice prior to<br />
registration.<br />
For your paym~nt to appear on <strong>University</strong> records bYt" <strong>the</strong> time you<br />
register, pre-payment must be received at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> by:<br />
July 30 for Level I students who will be registering in early August;<br />
fiugust 16 for Upper Level students who will be registering in early<br />
September.<br />
Students must complete <strong>the</strong> fee pr.epayment form and send it toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />
with a cheque, which may be post-dated to August 30, to <strong>the</strong> Business<br />
<strong>Office</strong>. The student identification"number should be written on <strong>the</strong> back<br />
<strong>of</strong> your cheque. By follOWing this procedure you will Significantly reduce<br />
<strong>the</strong> time needed to complete Registration.<br />
Students who are expecting to receive financial assistance under <strong>the</strong><br />
Ontario Student Assistance Programme or are to be recipients <strong>of</strong> scholarships,<br />
bursaries or o<strong>the</strong>r awards, may arrange fee deferments prior to<br />
<strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> registration, proVided <strong>the</strong>y can show satisfactory evidence that<br />
such awards have been granted by contacting <strong>the</strong> Credit/Collection<br />
Department, extension 433113235. All fees are payable upon receipt <strong>of</strong><br />
financial assistance.<br />
Any known differences between <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> award, and minimum<br />
first payment must be paid by August 30.<br />
Students being sponsored by outside organizations, e.g. Vocational<br />
Rehabilitation Services, R.C.M.P., Canadian Armed Forces, etc., are<br />
required to bring copies <strong>of</strong> fee authorizations at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> request <strong>of</strong><br />
deferment.<br />
Students who are unable to pay <strong>the</strong>ir fees at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> registration<br />
should contact <strong>the</strong> Business <strong>of</strong>fice Room 208 Gilmour<br />
Hall prior to registration.<br />
