Application Procedures<br />

PROGRAMMES ENTERED IN LEVEL I<br />

<strong>McMaster</strong> <strong>University</strong> has <strong>the</strong> follOWing Level I programmes: Arts and<br />

Science I, "Business I, Engineering I, Humanities I, Music I, Nursing I,<br />

Physical Education I, Natural Sciences r and Social Sciences I.<br />

DEADLINES<br />

A complete application comprises: an application form; all relevant<br />

transcripts; and any o<strong>the</strong>r documentation stipulated in <strong>the</strong> Admission<br />

Requirements section and <strong>the</strong> specific Faculty sections <strong>of</strong> this Calendar,<br />

or in letters from <strong>the</strong> appropriate Faculty or <strong>the</strong> <strong>Registrar</strong>'s <strong>Office</strong>.<br />

All <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programmes have limited admission and may be full before<br />

<strong>the</strong> deadlines given below. The <strong>University</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong> right, <strong>the</strong>refore,<br />

not to accept applications submitted after a programme is full and you<br />

are advised to submit your application well in advance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

deadlines given on page 4, Sessional Dates.<br />

ENQUIRIES<br />

The Directory for Correspondence and Enquiries on page 2 <strong>of</strong> thi! Calendar,<br />

provides a list <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices and Administrative staff members<br />

to whom you may direct specific queries.<br />

ACADEMIC COUNSELLING FOR THOSE OFFERED<br />

ADMISSION<br />

If you are <strong>of</strong>fered admission to Level I, you will be asked to confirm<br />

that you have accepted <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> admission and will attend <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

When we receive your acceptance <strong>of</strong> our <strong>of</strong>fer, we shall send you<br />

a Registration Kit with information about <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, academic counselling<br />

and registration procedures.<br />

Each Faculty also makes arrangements for students to visit <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

and meet with a Faculty advisor to set up <strong>the</strong>ir programmes.<br />

Though attendance at <strong>the</strong> summer counselling and registration sessIons<br />

is not compulsory, you are strongly advised to do so. If you cannot<br />

attend one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se sessions, counselling will be provided at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />

September registration.<br />

If you are <strong>of</strong>fered admission above Level I, you may contact <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Associate Dean (Studies) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong>fering <strong>the</strong> programme,<br />

or <strong>the</strong> <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> programme, for academic<br />

counselling as soon as you are admitted.<br />

APPLICATION PROCEDURES<br />

The application procedures differ according to your current academic<br />

qualifications and your ultimate goals. You may determine <strong>the</strong> procedure<br />

you have to use by answering each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> questions below in<br />

sequence until you are directed to <strong>the</strong> procedure you must follow.<br />

appropriate Faculty. If you are int~nding to return to <strong>the</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Business<br />

or Science, this communication is a requirement. You may b~<br />

required to write a letter in order to seek readmission, unless five years<br />

have passed since your last registration.<br />

If five years have passed since you last registered at <strong>McMaster</strong>, you<br />

will be required to follow <strong>the</strong> current regulations and curriculum. You<br />

must obtain and complete an application form from <strong>the</strong> Admissions<br />

<strong>Office</strong> (Gilmour Hall, Room 120, telephone (416) 525-9140 extension<br />

4796). Your application will be considered by <strong>the</strong> appropriate Faculty<br />

committee.<br />

APPLICANTS WITH DISABILITIES<br />

The <strong>University</strong> encourages disabled persons to apply for admission to<br />

its programmes. All students are expected to satisfy <strong>the</strong> normal requirements<br />

for courses and programmes (including final examinations),<br />

although <strong>the</strong> Associate Deans (Studies) may authorize special arrangements<br />

to assist students to complete assignments, tests and examinations.<br />

Some programmes may include requirements which cannot be<br />

met by some people. Never<strong>the</strong>less in selected programmes an adapted<br />

course <strong>of</strong> study may be prescribed by <strong>the</strong> Associate Dean (Studies) on<br />

behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Faculty follOWing discussion with <strong>the</strong> student. Although<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are many obstacles to overcome, experience has shown that students<br />

with various disabilities have been able to' complete a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

programmes at <strong>McMaster</strong>.<br />

Applicants with disabflities are encouraged to contact <strong>the</strong> Co-ordinator<br />

for <strong>the</strong> Disabled, (<strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Registrar</strong>, Gilmour Hall Room<br />

109B, telephone(416) 525-9140 extension 4339} who will discuss <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

programmes <strong>of</strong> study and o<strong>the</strong>r aspects <strong>of</strong> university life, and will identify<br />

<strong>the</strong> faculty advisers to whom <strong>the</strong>y should speak. Information on sources<br />

<strong>of</strong> financial assistance is also available. "<br />

A student <strong>of</strong> <strong>McMaster</strong> who incurs a permanent or temporary disability<br />

while enrolled at <strong>McMaster</strong> should consult <strong>the</strong> Associate Dean (Studies)<br />

<strong>of</strong> his or her Faculty to consider whe<strong>the</strong>r or not special arrangements<br />

can be made to enable that student to continue <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> studies in<br />

which he or she is enrolled.<br />
