“We pulled out all the
stops to showcase why
our city hosted incentive
programs that brought over
25,000 delegates to our
shores last financial year.
Companies are attracted
to our city’s ability to make
the impossible possible;
our dynamic business
environment, and Sydney’s
innovative teambuilding
activities. This is exactly
what we showcased to the
Dreamtime group.”
on what made Kerala a
tourism ‘Superbrand’.
In the face of economic
crises in Europe and the
US, Kerala Tourism has
brought about a shift in its
marketing strategy to lend
better focus on emerging
markets such as Australia
and Scandinavian countries.
Rani George, Director
Tourism, Government of
Kerala said: “This is part
of a new drive by the state
government to approach
emerging markets with
concrete short-term and
long-term strategies and
tap their potential.”
India wins two global awards
at WTM 2011 and aims higher
India took centre-stage
at the World Tourism Mart
2011, which took place
in London from Nov. 7 to
Nov. 10, when it won two
global awards for World’s
Leading Destination and
World’s Leading Tourist
Board. While receiving
the awards, Subodh Kant
Sahai, Minister of Tourism,
Government of India said
that India planned to have
another five million tourists
in the next two to three
years, in addition to five
million recorded this year.
He said: “Our aim is to
increase India’s share in
the international tourist
arrivals from the present
0.6 per cent of one billion
travellers to one per cent
by the end of 2016. In
India, the tourism sector
is going to be recognised
as an infrastructure sector.
We need two million hotel
rooms if we are going to
add five million tourists.
The infrastructure will be
developed by the Central
and State governments
on the Private-Public
Partnership model. We have
started late in developing
the tourism industry, but
we are on the job to make
it a success.”
Reports indicate Hong Kong’s exhibition
industry boosts the economy
The latest in a series of
biennial Economic Impact
Study reports on Hong
Kong’s exhibition industry
shows that activities
associated with Hong
Kong’s exhibition industry
contributed HK$35.8 billion
(US$4.6 billion) to the local
economy in 2010 while
generating the equivalent
of 69,150 full-time jobs.
The report, commissioned
by the Hong Kong Exhibition
and Convention Industry
Association (HKECIA),
revealed that the exhibition
industry continues to bring
significant benefits to Hong
Kong’s economy, not only
by contributing substantial
expenditure effects, but
also by providing thousands
of jobs for the exhibition
industry and other service
industries and supporting
sectors.
Daniel Cheung, Chairman,
HKECIA said: “Exhibitions
are important factors
in raising Hong Kong’s
international status. Hong
Kong hosts five of the world’s
largest trade exhibitions
and seven of Asia’s largest
trade exhibitions. Recordbreaking
events like this
reinforce Hong Kong’s
profile as a dynamic place
to do business, creating a
momentum which keeps
Hong Kong high in global
awareness as an ideal
business location.”
