Support for Industry<br />
Whilst the global financial turmoil receded steadily, world trade<br />
remained weak last year. In view of the uncertain economic<br />
recovery outlook and difficulties faced by manufacturers, the FHKI<br />
took the opportunity of the Pre-Policy Address and Pre-Budget<br />
consultations to lobby the Government. Our main submissions<br />
were to maintain the economic relief measures, in particular<br />
the Special Loan Guarantee Scheme and the enhanced services<br />
of Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation, to support<br />
enterprises and preserve employment. The FHKI also requested<br />
the Government to render stronger assistance to manufacturers<br />
in upgrading, transformation and pursuing domestic sales in the<br />
Mainland.<br />

Promoting New Pillar Industries<br />
The FHKI has long called on the Government to diversify the<br />
local economic base, so as to strengthen Hong Kong’s overall<br />

FHKI wrote to the Financial Secretary and Hong Kong Council<br />
for Testing and Certification (HKCTC), offering suggestions for<br />
