The Chief Secretary Henry Tang visited nine PRD cities during<br />
the year. Chairmen and excom members of the PRD chapters<br />
joined the various delegations that were aimed to consolidate<br />
cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong. The visits<br />
were well received by all cities concerned.<br />
It is now two years since the PRD Council signed a cooperation<br />
memo with the Guangdong Customs, and based on members’<br />
views and suggestions the Council has presented several proposals<br />
for changes to customs regulations. The Customs would amend<br />
the content of the Administrative Measures on Categorisation of<br />
Enterprises, and the new measures were expected to be launched<br />
in June 20<strong>10</strong>. Work is continuing to obtain more preferential<br />
policies of clearance for enterprises.<br />
On 4 December 2009, over 1,000 industry leaders, manufacturers<br />
and senior government officials from Hong Kong and the PRD<br />
attended the 8 th PRD Gala Dinner in Dongguan. Jointly organised<br />
by the FHKI, Hong Kong Productivity Council, PRD Council, and<br />
co-organised by the Dongguan Government and Hong Kong<br />
Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, it was a successful<br />
occasion to strengthen contacts across industries.<br />
During the year, the Mainland Affairs Committee, chaired by Martin<br />
Tam, attended 65 investment and trade symposia in Hong Kong<br />

hosted by various provincial and municipal governments. The<br />
Committee members also received 59 incoming delegations to<br />
explore business opportunities. Furthermore, the Mainland Affairs<br />
Committee led a delegation to attend the 13 th China International<br />
Fair for Investment & Trade and signed a memorandum of<br />
cooperation on behalf of the FHKI with the Fujian Provincial<br />
Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation ( 福 建<br />
省 對 外 貿 易 經 濟 合 作 廳 )and Committee for the Promotion of<br />
Fujian Economic Cooperation ( 福 建 省 經 濟 貿 易 委 員 會 ).<br />
Dissemination of Information on New Policies and<br />
Regulations<br />
Members were also regularly updated on new policies and<br />
regulations and were able to make use of the enquiry hotline<br />
to resolve over 2,000 questions. Furthermore, the PRD Council<br />
assisted members with over 200 specific business cases.<br />
In view of the development potential and demand of services<br />
from members, the PRD Council is planning to enlarge its<br />
geographical coverage. Work has been underway for the setting<br />
up of Zhuhai and Chaoshan chapters, and the opening of new<br />
representative offices in these cities.<br />
The PRD Council co-organised with the Zhongshan Municipal Government a briefing on<br />
the Outline of the Reform and Development Plan of the PRD cum forum on Hong Kong-<br />
Zhongshan Services Cooperation and Development.<br />

The FHKI will continue to offer its services in keeping with the<br />
business environment, to help members cope with post-crisis<br />
challenges and seize new business opportunities as Hong Kong<br />
industry in the PRD undergoes the processes of restructuring,<br />
upgrade and transformation.<br />
