Group 19 – Hong Kong Toys<br />
Council (HKTC)<br />
HKTC experienced another busy year. A<br />
series of seminars and workshops, jointly<br />
organised with the Toys Manufacturers’<br />
Association of Hong Kong (TMHK) and<br />
funded by SME Development Fund of Trade<br />
and Industry Department, were held to serve<br />
members’ needs and foster the development<br />
of the toy industry. Topics covered included<br />
updates on the process and implementation<br />
of ICTI CARE, US toy safety certification, US<br />
Consumer Product Safety Improvement<br />
Act (CPSIA), risk management concerning<br />
corruption in trading and manufacturing,<br />
and optimisation of management in the toy<br />
industry.<br />
Hong Kong toy industry players continued<br />
to advocate the “One Industry One<br />
Mission” spirit to promote high-quality and<br />
innovative toys made by Hong Kong. In<br />
December 2009, HKTC and TMHK again coorganised<br />
the second Annual Dinner of the<br />
Hong Kong Toy Industry. For the first time<br />
the two toy organisations jointly presented<br />
the Outstanding Achievement Award –<br />
Hong Kong Toy Industry to Lawrence<br />
Chan of Wynnewood Corporation Ltd.<br />
The Financial Secretary John Tsang was<br />
the guest-of-honour, and over 750 guests<br />
attended the Dinner.<br />

To start the new year 20<strong>10</strong>, HKTC, TMHK<br />
and FHKI co-organised the Hong Kong<br />
International Toys Festival which was<br />
launched with a Networking Reception<br />
on 12 January, officiated by the Director-<br />
General of Trade and Industry Maria<br />
Kwan. Joining hands for the first time with<br />
HKTDC, the Festival coincided with the<br />
Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair 20<strong>10</strong> and<br />
Hong Kong Baby Products Fair 20<strong>10</strong>.<br />
The Networking Reception attracted over<br />
400 local and overseas industry members.<br />
The Hong Kong Toys Industry<br />
Conference 20<strong>10</strong>, supported by the<br />
TID SME Development Fund, was held<br />
the day after the Reception. Officials<br />
from mainland China, US and EU were<br />
invited to talk about the latest toy safety<br />
directives of their respective regions.<br />
The Conference attracted an audience<br />
of 400 people who enthusiastically<br />
participated in the Q&A session.<br />
On the same day, a seminar on the role of<br />
a factory in the US toy safety certification<br />
process (TSCP) was held. Representatives<br />
of the US Toy Industry Association and<br />
the US TSCP authority shared with<br />
150 industry members the requirements<br />
of the US Consumer Product Safety<br />
Commission (CPSC), and discussed<br />
how toy manufacturers could achieve<br />
compliance with the US Consumer<br />
Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)<br />
through TSCP.<br />
HKTC and TMHK leadership hosted a press conference before the Annual Dinner of the Hong Kong Toy<br />
Industry.<br />
