10.0 P UBLIC E DUCATION AND OUTREACH<br />

The City of Murrieta implements the public education and outreach program described in the <strong>Riverside</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> DAMP, which addresses the requirements of the Third-term MS4 Permit (Section 10.2), the<br />

objectives of the public education and outreach program (Section 10.3), implementation of the program<br />

(Section 10.4), and the specific components of the program, including public participation (Section 10.5).<br />

The City of Murrieta utilizes the resources of the <strong>Riverside</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Flood</strong> <strong>Control</strong> & Water Conservation<br />

District (http://www.floodcontrol.co.riverside.ca.us/stormwater) to promote public awareness. Education<br />

materials are available at the Engineering counter, the Building counter, business license counter, etc.<br />

The Public Works Inspectors also distribute education materials related to construction site inspections.<br />

Educational materials regarding pet waste, household hazardous waste pick-up schedule, pool and spa<br />

maintenance, etc. Education materials are also distributed during the annual spring cleaning event, during<br />

the annual birthday party (July 1) and during any other public event.<br />

An evaluation of the effectiveness of the Public Education and Outreach component of the SWMP will be<br />

included in the Annual Report. The measurable goals addressed in this evaluation will include the<br />

number of:<br />

♦ Permittee employees trained<br />

♦ Construction outreach events conducted<br />

♦ Industrial/Commercial outreach events conducted<br />

♦ Media impressions<br />

♦ Classroom presentations<br />

♦ Public education events conducted<br />

These measurable goals will be considered in an overall assessment of the effectiveness of the Public<br />

Education and Outreach component. In addition, major accomplishments of the Public Education and<br />

Outreach component and changes to be implemented in the subsequent year to improve the effectiveness<br />

of the program will be included in the evaluation. A reporting form for summarizing this evaluation is<br />

included in the <strong>Riverside</strong> <strong>County</strong> DAMP.<br />
