18 Gloucester Township Girls Athletic Association The GTGAA is currently involved in their Girls Softball Program which will run until the end of June. Games are held weeknights at Highland HS, Timber Creek HS, Lewis School, and at the Marge Martin Complex at Lakeland. Other programs for 2010: Competition Cheerleading The “Wildcats” Competition Cheerleaders are about to begin. Registrations for girls currently in grades 1 through High School will be held on April 28 and May 3 from 6-7 pm at the Municipal Building. Late registrations contact the Hotline or email to gtgaa@ yahoo.com through May 17. Practices held through May and will restart in Aug. Squads will be formed from the May registrations and will attend competitions in the tri-state area. Look for the Annual Wildcat Cheer Invitational Competition on Nov. 14 at Highland HS. Girls Summer Basketball Registrations for current grades 3 through HS will be held on Wed, June 2 (6-7 pm) and Mon June 7 (6-7 pm) at the Municipal Building. Fee is $40. Program will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from early July to mid-August at Highland and Timber Creek HS. Divisions will be created depending on registrations. New special alternating weeks of games and camp! Great to develop skills then use in game situation! Free basketball to members! Girls Summer Volleyball Registrations for the Summer Volleyball Program for girls current grades 6 through HS will be held on June 2 (6-7 pm) and June 7 (6-7 pm) at the Municipal Building, Fee is $25, Program will be held on Thursday evenings from early July to mid-August at Highland or Timber Creek HS. Divisions will be created depending on registrations. Indoor Soccer Registrations for Indoor Soccer will be held on Sept 11 (1-3 pm) and Sept 15 (6-7 pm) at the Municipal Building for girls age 8 to 15, Games are played in local school gyms and Rec Center in the evenings during the week from mid-Sept to late Nov. Fee will be $45. Coaches will be needed. Fall Volleyball Registrations for Volleyball will be held same dates as Indoor Soccer for grades 6 through HS, Program to run one night a week for about 6 weeks from Oct. to Nov. Winter Basketball registrations for girls age 8 to 17 will be held in late Oct - the season runs from Dec. until mid-March. Gloucester Township Hawks Lacrosse Ever think about trying lacrosse, but wasn’t sure Well here is an opportunity to try it for no cost. Gloucester Township Youth Lacrosse will be having its 2nd Annual Bring a Friend Day on Saturday, June 19, 2010 (11 am - for the Ladies 1 pm - for the Boys) at the Multipurpose field at Gloucester Township Community Park, located at Peter Cheeseman Road and Hickstown Road. Highland Youth Soccer Club Highland Youth Soccer Club provides children the opportunity to play both travel soccer and organized recreational soccer. In recreational program, children are taught the basic individual and team skills needed to play the game of soccer, the rules of the game, and to compete. Every child in the Intramural Program is given equal opportunity to play regardless of ability. The program starts with our U4 bracket (born between 8/1/2005 and 7/31/2006) and through our newly developed Youth Development Program (YDP) for player’s age 9-11. Our Travel Program begins at age 7 (U-8) and has boys and girls teams playing through age 17. The travel teams play against other clubs throughout South Jersey. Currently we have 18 boys and 18 girls travel teams playing in the South Jersey Boys and Girls’ Soccer League, JAGS, Region 1 and the Mid-Atlantic Premier Soccer League. HYSC provides trainers, at no additional cost to the parents, for both the intramural and travel programs to assist our players and coaches. Highland Youth Soccer Club in cooperation with the Lamaina family maintain the Joseph Lamaina Memorial Fund. This is to subsidize the cost of participation in the Club for any families in Gloucester Twp, with children who wish to play soccer, but cannot afford to pay. Rotary Club of Gloucester Township The Rotary Club of Gloucester Township, part of the World Wide Service Organization, comprised of Businessmen and Women serving humanitarian needs within the Township have purchased over 1,000 dictionaries to distribute to all Third Grade students. This project aides in the development of literacy among those at that Grade Level. Each year the Rotarians provide this educational benefit to all schools in Gloucester Township. Many favorable comments have been received from teachers, parents and administrators on the reactions from the students. 19
