<strong>New</strong>s<br />

As the weather gets warmer, closer attention needs to be paid to the exterior of<br />

your residence. High grass and weeds must be maintained and all trees and<br />

bushes must be kept trimmed. These violations are listed under the “Property<br />

Maintenance Code” located in Chapter 67 A. The Code Enforcement Unit looks<br />

forward to working with the residents of <strong>Gloucester</strong> <strong>Township</strong> as an effective<br />

means to help improve your neighborhood and community. Code Enforcement<br />

Violations can be reported to the Code Enforcement Unit at 856-374-3513 or<br />

codeenforcement@gtpolice.com. Some of the most common violations are:<br />

• Property Maintenance: Residents are required to keep their property maintained at all times. The exterior of properties<br />

are to be properly maintained, such as repairs, and/or painting of house, garage, down spouts, etc., replacement/<br />

repairs of broken windows, fences, and sheds. Grass cannot exceed 10” in height and must be cut and maintained<br />

during the growing season. Bushes/shrubs must also be maintained (Trimmed and kept from becoming overgrown).<br />

Bushes/Shrubs also must not impede the sidewalk. Scattered trash/debris is not permitted and must be removed.<br />

• Swimming Pools: All pool water must be treated to avoid stagnant water and mosquito<br />

problems, also all pools require a fence around the yard or pool area.<br />

• Garbage, Rubbish, and Waste: Trash or Recycles may not be placed<br />

at the curb prior to 4:00 pm the day prior to pickup and trash containers<br />

must be removed within 12 hrs of pickup. Also, when trimming trees and<br />

shrubs all brush/branches must be cut and bundled no longer than 5 It in<br />

length, not to exceed 50 Ibs and placed at the curb with your recycling.<br />

• Streets & Sidewalks: You may not place basketball nets of any<br />

kind or hockey nets in the street or right of way. All basketball<br />

nets (portable or permanent) must be on your property.<br />

• Off Street Parking: Automobiles are not to be parked<br />

on landscaped areas. Vehicles must be parked on some<br />

type driveway(stone, asphalt,concrete,etc.<br />

Operation of Motorized Vehicles<br />

The operation of motorized scooters, mini bikes, trail<br />

bikes, go-peds and other similar motorized recreational<br />

devices, electric or gas powered, are prohibited by<br />

Ordinance 82-1 from being operated at the following<br />

locations:<br />

• On private property without written consent<br />

of the property owner in their possession<br />

while operating the recreational device.<br />

• On any public, municipal, or board of<br />

education grounds or property<br />

• On any public sidewalk or public street or area<br />

commonly used for pedestrians or vehicular traffic<br />

• On any common area, parking area or open space<br />

of any apartment complex, multi family, residential,<br />

industrial complex or development In a manner to create<br />

loud, unnecessary or unusual noise so as to disturb or<br />

interfere with the peace and quiet of other persons and<br />

no person shall operate such unlicensed motor driven<br />

or motorized vehicle before 9:00 am within five hundred<br />

feet of any property line of any residential property line.<br />

Violators may be charged with violations under<br />

L.O. 82-1 and <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Motor Vehicles<br />

laws, which also prohibit the use of these<br />

recreational vehicles on public roadways.<br />

Kyleigh’s Law<br />

This law is in memory of Kyleigh D’Alessio a 16<br />

year old student/athlete who died in a motor vehicle<br />

crash involving a provisional license holder who was<br />

in violation of the passenger restriction under the<br />

<strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Graduated Driver License (GDL) Law.<br />

Effective May 1, 2010 two removable, transferable, highly<br />

visible, reflective decals, indicating that the driver of<br />

the vehicle may be the holder of a permit or provisional<br />

license must be affixed to the vehicle when that driver<br />

is behind the wheel. The Motor Vehicle Commission is<br />

responsible for designing and distributing the decals as<br />

well as determining how the decals must be displayed.<br />

The person under 21 years of age operating a<br />

vehicle with a (GDL) will be limited to one passenger<br />

regardless of family affiliation, unless accompanied<br />

by a parent or Guardian. The fine for violating<br />

this requirement is $100 plus cost and fees.<br />

The cost of the decals will be $4.00 dollars<br />

and issued at time of licensing. The <strong>Gloucester</strong><br />

<strong>Township</strong> Police Department will be reviewing this<br />

new law with students at the local highs schools<br />

during this spring’s DWl Pre-Prom Education<br />
