Carol<strong>in</strong>e Owsley Brown was born December 29, 1845,<br />
<strong>in</strong> Jamestown, Kentucky, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> daughter <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> John and Mary<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ley Owsley. When she was six years old she moved,<br />
where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y<br />
with her parents, to Jacks<strong>on</strong>ville, Ill<strong>in</strong>ois,<br />
lived for a number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> years before com<strong>in</strong>g to Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield.<br />
She was educated <strong>in</strong> Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield, Ill<strong>in</strong>ois.<br />
Her first marriage was to Dr. Fa<strong>in</strong>sworth <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Chicago.<br />
After Ms death she was married to Christopher C. Brown<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield, Ill<strong>in</strong>ois, <strong>on</strong> June 10, 1872. Their children<br />
are Stuart Brown (deceased), Edwards Brown (deceased),<br />
Mrs. Frank P. Ide and Owsley Brown <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield.<br />
Mrs. Brown was deeply <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> missi<strong>on</strong>s, and<br />
was President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Ill<strong>in</strong>ois branch <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Foreign Missi<strong>on</strong>ary<br />
Society <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Presbyterian church. She was<br />
also a member <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Board <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Directors <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Presbyterian<br />
Missi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Northwest, and was vice-president<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Sangam<strong>on</strong> County Chapter <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> American Red<br />
Cross.<br />
Besides liv<strong>in</strong>g a very active life <strong>in</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> social and religious<br />
world, Mrs. Brown was a literary woman <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> talent.<br />
Am<strong>on</strong>g her published works are "My Girlhood <strong>in</strong> Kentucky/'<br />
"A Young Girl's Recollecti<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> L<strong>in</strong>coln," and<br />
"Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield Society Fifty Years Ago."<br />
Mrs. Christopher C. Brown died at <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> home <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> her<br />
daughter, Mrs. Frank P. Ide, <strong>in</strong> Spr<strong>in</strong>gfield, Ill<strong>in</strong>ois, <strong>on</strong><br />
October 12, 1919.
