Aker international trainee programme
2008 was the thirdyear of the Aker international trainee programme.
With the participation of Aker Solutions, Aker Floating Production,
Aker Drilling and other Aker companies the programme has
provided 66 assignments. Trainees have achance to work in our
key markets including Norway, the US, UK and Malaysia.
In September 2008, the first team of
trainees graduated from the programme
and joined our pool of future leaders. Each
of the eight graduating trainees accepted
permanent positions within Aker Solutions
in the US, Brazil, China, Malaysia and
Norway, working in different business
areas and involved in business development,
procurement, finance and business
management.
“During my two years as atrainee within
the company, I have been exposed to
different disciplines including qualifications
and clarifications for tenders, cost
estimates for projects, our Project Execution
Model, and branch management issues.
Ihave worked in the general organisation
and also had afantastic opportunity to be
on abig international project –Adriatic LNG.
My experience on the project formed my
firm desire tobeapart of aproject team
again. That is why Iamnow assigned to
the Sakhalin IArkutun-Dagi project, working
in procurement,” said Yulia Semenchenko,
aRussian trainee who graduated in 2008.
In September 2008, a third team of
trainees joined the programme. The team
consists of ten recent graduates who were
recruited in the autumn of 2007 from India,
Malaysia, Norway and Russia. The worldwide
recruitment campaign received
an impressive 1500 applications for the
Team III visiting Egersund Yard in
September 2008.
ten positions. To address our business
needs we recruited trainees with amixed
background in both engineering and in
business.
New programmes
A number of new, specially-developed
courses werelaunched on the portal during
2008. As asupplier to fossil fuel producers,
it is important that we address climate
challenges and the need to reduce greeneLearning
With more than 80 000 courses completed so far, eLearning
has become an effective way of enhancing expertise for our
employees.
We offer alarge number of courses through
our eLearning portal, which is used actively
by all the business. More than 40 000
programmes werecompleted in 2008 alone.
A number of the courses are obligatory,
and the local business units can document
the progress of their employees for
themselves. Such documentation is important,
not least for ISO certification of the
businesses. Employees can take courses
via their own home PCs, whenever they
want and regardless of their geographical
location. Compared with classroom-based
teaching, eLearning substantially reduces
the cost of travel and use of resources.
house gas emissions. Our new course on
“the environment –our common responsibility”
raises these issues and the way our
employees can take personal responsibility
for the environment.
A number of courses have been
launched on key issues such as health,
safety and the environment (HSE), corporate
responsibility (CR) and Aker Solutions’
Project Execution Model (PEM).
More than eLearning
In 2008,our first classroom-basedcourses
were registered with the Academy. This
represents an important step towards realising
the vision of acommon education
portal for the whole of Aker Solutions, no
matter the medium used, and will reduce
the cost of maintaining several different
systems.
Classroom teaching is also used in
combination with eLearning.
