<strong>and</strong> continue to develop specialized knowledge <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing about the history, traditions,<br />

values, family <strong>system</strong>s <strong>and</strong> artistic expressions <strong>of</strong> major client groups they serve.<br />

4. Cross-Cultural Skills: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care use<br />

appropriate methodological approaches, skills <strong>and</strong> techniques that reflect their underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong><br />

the role <strong>of</strong> culture in the helping process.<br />

5. Service Delivery: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care are knowledgeable<br />

about <strong>and</strong> skillful in the use <strong>of</strong> services available in the community <strong>and</strong> broader society <strong>and</strong> are<br />

able to make appropriate referrals <strong>for</strong> their diverse <strong>children</strong>, <strong>youth</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>families</strong>.<br />

6. Empowerment <strong>and</strong> Advocacy: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care are<br />

aware <strong>of</strong> the effect <strong>of</strong> policies <strong>and</strong> programs on diverse client populations, advocating <strong>for</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

with <strong>children</strong>, <strong>youth</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>families</strong> when appropriate.<br />

7. Diverse Work<strong>for</strong>ce: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care support <strong>and</strong><br />

advocate <strong>for</strong> recruitment, admissions, hiring <strong>and</strong> retention ef<strong>for</strong>ts in programs <strong>and</strong> agencies that<br />

ensure diversity within the <strong>system</strong>.<br />

8. Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care advocate <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> participate in educational <strong>and</strong> training programs that help advance cultural competence within<br />

the <strong>system</strong>.<br />

9. Language Diversity: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care seek to provide<br />

or advocate <strong>for</strong> the provision <strong>of</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation, referrals <strong>and</strong> services in the language appropriate to<br />

the client, which may include the use <strong>of</strong> interpreters.<br />

10. Cross-Cultural Leadership: Individuals working within all levels <strong>of</strong> the System <strong>of</strong> Care are able<br />

to communicate in<strong>for</strong>mation about diverse client groups to other pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
