AAA - American Automobile Association<br />
AASHTO - American Association of <strong>State</strong> <strong>Highway</strong> and<br />
Transportation Officials<br />
ACEC - American Council of Engineering Companies<br />
ACF - American Chestnut Foundation<br />
ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act<br />
A/E - Architectural and Engineering<br />
A & G - Administrative and General, usually referring to<br />
expenditures<br />
APS - Accessible Pedestrian Signal<br />
ARRA - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009<br />
CCMS - Customer Care Management System<br />
Centerline Miles - The length of a road in miles measured<br />
along the center of the road<br />
CHART - Coordinated <strong>Highway</strong>s Action Response Team<br />
CTP - Consolidated Transportation Program which is the MDOT<br />
six-year capital budget plan<br />
CSFL - Choose Safety for Life<br />
CVIEW - Commercial Vehicle Information Exchange Window<br />
CY - Calendar Year, from January through December<br />
DBE - Disadvantaged Business Enterprise<br />
DMS - Dynamic Message Sign<br />
DNR - <strong>Maryland</strong> Department of Natural Resources<br />
DOT - Department of Transportation<br />
EPA - Environmental Protection Agency<br />
E & S - Erosion and Sediment, usually related to putting<br />
controls in place to limit soil erosion<br />
FHWA - Federal <strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Administration</strong><br />
FMIS - Financial Management Information System<br />
FY- Fiscal Year, from July through June<br />
ICC - Intercounty Connector<br />
ITS - Intelligent Transportation System<br />
KPA - Key Performance Area<br />
Lane-miles - The mileage from one end of a highway to the<br />
other multiplied by the number of lanes<br />
LOS - Level of Service refers to the level of maintenance service<br />
that has been provided with 100% being the highest value; but<br />
can also refer to the level of traffic congestion on a road with<br />
“A” being the best<br />
MBE - Minority Business Enterprise<br />
MDE - <strong>Maryland</strong> Department of the Environment<br />
MDOT - <strong>Maryland</strong> Department of Transportation<br />
MdQI - <strong>Maryland</strong> Quality Initiative<br />
MDTA - <strong>Maryland</strong> Transportation Authority<br />
MHT - <strong>Maryland</strong> Historical Trust<br />
MPT - <strong>Maryland</strong> Public Television<br />
MVA - Motor Vehicle <strong>Administration</strong><br />
NEPA - National Environmental Policy Act<br />

SWM - Stormwater Management, usually associated with facilities<br />
or structures designed to control and/or filter water flow<br />
TWIS - Truck Weigh and Inspection Station<br />
VMT - Vehicle Miles Traveled (i.e., two vehicles traveling two<br />
miles equals four VMT)<br />
WWB - Woodrow Wilson Bridge<br />
GIS - Geographic Information System<br />
