The MTA Life Members
welcomed guests Bruce
and Maureen Livingstone and
Rod and Jan McLean at the
recent Life Members dinner,
held at the Hackney Hotel on
May 12.
Bruce served the MTA-ACT
as President and as Executive
Director, also becoming the
President of AACC, the
national body from which the
MTAA developed.
Bruce and Maureen now live
in Lakes Entrance, Victoria.
Rod McLean served as
President of MTA-SA and
following several successful
ventures has now retired to the
Yorke Peninsula.
Michael Delaney
MTAA Executive Director
Michael Delaney has
moved to a full time position as
Secretary and Principal Officer
of MTAA Superannuation. Mr
Delaney has worked tirelessly for
the MTAA for 22 years since its
inception and was instrumental
As Bruce and Maureen were
holidaying in SA and staying
for a couple of nights with
past MTA Executive Director,
Richard Flashman, a special
dinner for the "Lifers" was
arranged by Richard and because
Rod and Bruce served the
industry as contemporaries it
was fitting to make it a reunion.
Also present were Life
Members, Bruce Macfarlane and
Ian Day and past Deputy MTA
Executive Director, Dennis
Boldock.
MTA Life Member Harold
Shipp was unable to attend.
The MTA Life Members try
to have a get-together dinner at
least twice a year.

presented with a gift by the
MTAA Board as recognition of
his contribution to the motor
industry. Sue Scanlan (right) has
moved up to the role as Acting
Executive Director of MTAA.
MTA trainer visits the US
MTA-GTS trainer Steven
Richardson recently
travelled to the United States
to undertake a concentrated
hybrid training program.
Richardson, who left
Adelaide on June 24,
undertook two three-day
training courses and said on
his departure that he would
be trying to glean as much
information as possible.
“I am really excited about the
opportunity to be able to travel
over there. I will be trying to
grab as much information as
possible to bring back to MTA
members and apprentices,” Mr
Richardson said.
“It is a great opportunity for
me as well as the MTA moving
into a new generation of
mechanical training.”
The first of the training
components will be focussed
on an introduction to hybrid
mechanics, the theories behind
the vehicle and basic servicing.
The second training module
will go a little more in-depth
and explore such elements as
diagnosing, fault finding and
principle of operation.
MTA Executive Director,
John Chapman said the
investment in the trip and
in Richardson’s training was
an important one as the
world continues to become
increasingly environmentally
conscious.
“For us to be able to send
one of our trainers to the
United States to undertake
such a training course means
that we will be able to offer
the most up-to-date training
to our members and our
apprentices,” Mr Chapman
said.
On his return Mr Richardson
will provide a comprehensive
report on the major elements
that he learned. This report
will appear in the next issue of
Motor Trade.
