Regions and Divisions<br />
Southern country zone<br />
AGM “Sold out”<br />
It was truly a great Annual<br />
General Meeting for the<br />
Southern country zone on May<br />
6 this year. Members enjoyed all<br />
the refinements of the Victory<br />
Hotel at Sellicks Beach as their<br />
chosen venue to hold the AGM.<br />
Good dining set the mood for<br />
good times allowing members<br />
to network and catch up with<br />
fellow industry business owners.<br />
On the business front,<br />
members were informed with<br />
presentations by <strong>MTA</strong> staff<br />
Tim Buckley and Paul Eblen.<br />
Paul spoke of the Fair Work<br />
Act and Award Modernisation<br />
changes and Tim previewed<br />
the <strong>MTA</strong> business plan for<br />
2010/11.<br />
Derek Reavill from <strong>MTA</strong>-GTS,<br />
Danny Knight from Capricorn<br />
Society and Steven Berry of<br />
SGIC Business Insurance were<br />
also able to mix with members<br />
and present the latest information<br />
on their business activities.<br />
Anthony Norris of Grand Auto<br />
Wreckers, Lonsdale was elected<br />
Chairman of the zone and<br />
Stephan Bielawski of Dynamic<br />
Motor Mexhanix, Lonsdale as<br />
Vice Chairman. South Coast<br />
Auto Repairs owner, Danny<br />
Shane was re-elected as Board<br />
Representative for the zone.<br />
The next meeting for the<br />
Southern Country zone will be<br />
held Tuesday, October 26 2010.<br />
Upper Spencer Gulf zone<br />
meeting<br />
The Upper Spencer Gulf zone<br />
dinner meeting was held<br />
at the Spencer Hotel, Whyalla<br />
on May 10 2010 and was well<br />
attended with members travelling<br />
from Port <strong>August</strong>a to attend.<br />
<strong>MTA</strong> staff member Anna<br />
Rau gave a presentation on the<br />
Fair Work Act highlighting the<br />
importance of changes such as<br />
the parental, personal, carers,<br />
compassionate leave, flexible<br />
working arrangements and the<br />
importance of employment<br />
documentation.<br />
Roger Ballantine presented<br />
the <strong>MTA</strong> 2010/2011 business<br />
plan outlining the key points<br />
of the GTS expansion with the<br />
completion of the $2.7m Heavy<br />
Vehicle Training Facility. He<br />
also outlined the extra courses<br />
on offer, the increased apprentice<br />
intake, environment auditing<br />
programs, member forums,<br />
increasing <strong>MTA</strong> membership<br />
and the importance of our<br />
business partners.<br />
The division also made a<br />
decision to continue with the<br />
“Alan Melville Apprentice<br />
Award” in combination with<br />
the local Whyalla Economic<br />
Development Award nights.<br />
Chairman, Leon Jarvis, in<br />
closing thanked <strong>MTA</strong> staff and<br />
SGIC for their contribution<br />
and hospitality and also the<br />
members for their attendance and<br />
participation.<br />

Lower South East country zone<br />
The Lower South East<br />
zone dinner meeting was<br />
held at the Commodore on the<br />
Park Motel on April 19 2010<br />
with a good representation<br />
from member businesses in<br />
attendance.<br />
Chairman, Peter Roberts gave<br />
an overview on the role of the<br />
<strong>MTA</strong>, Board and Executive and<br />
advised members to remember<br />
to use <strong>MTA</strong> for problem issues.<br />
One area where assistance was<br />
requested was the growth in the<br />
district of roadside car selling<br />
and options to address this.<br />
<strong>MTA</strong> staff member Roger<br />
Ballantine gave a presentation<br />
on the <strong>MTA</strong> business plan for<br />
2010/2011 highlighting the<br />
key points and Paul Eblen gave<br />
an address on the Fair Work<br />
Act and how the changes will<br />
impact on members.<br />
John Matthews from<br />
SGIC reported on the risks<br />
associated with under-insurance<br />
highlighting that approximately<br />
50 per cent of businesses are in<br />
this category.<br />
The Chairman thanked<br />
members for their attendance<br />
reminding them to diarise the<br />
next meeting (zone AGM) later<br />
this year in October.<br />
