“Today that vision is a reality.
We currently employ over
500 apprentices and trainees
throughout South Australia in
the Automotive Industry and
host them out to employers for a
minimum of three months or for
the full term of their Contract of
Training.”
Mr Clark said over 2,000
apprentices and trainees have
now graduated.
“Over the last 12 months we
expanded our program of Post
Trade Courses to deliver courses
that cover LP Gas Installation,
LP Gas Service & Repair, SRS
Air Bags, Air Conditioning,
Body Management, Drive
Management and Wheel
Alignment.”
Looking to the future, he said
plans to develop the Royal Park
training facility were now a
reality.
“We now have a state-of-theart
training workshop which will
help meet the skill demands for
the motor trade industry and
will allow the GTS to conduct
stage two in diesel mechanics at
Royal Park whereas previously
apprentices were sent to TAFE
at O’Halloran Hill. Our first
group of 12 diesel mechanics
to use the new workshop
commenced on April 12, 2010.”
The workshop boasts:
• a 15 metre ventilated truck
pit equipped with a fully
ducted ventilation system
• 8 overhead vehicle hoists
• an all wheel drive 1200
dynometer
• a four bay drive facility for
semi and B-double trailers
for repairs and maintenance
• additional training areas
to expand our post-trade
training including hybrid
and electric vehicles
• a new 10-bay welding
area for welding and
fabrication training which
is essential for semi
trailer maintenance and
manufacture.
