Collision Repair Division Executive Committee meeting The Collision Repair Division Committee met on June 1 2010 in North Adelaide. The committee spent considerable time on current business costs versus allowance; as we all know these have gone backwards in real terms. The committee as part of their strategic planning in the early part of the year are developing a program specific to the collision industry focusing on the front of the business which is the most undervalued piece of real estate in a crash shop - more news on that soon. On the agenda for discussion was also the current situation of the review of the Code of Conduct, the possible name change to the Quality Approved Member program, the national meeting in Perth in July, the new severity rating being implemented by Allianz Insurance without any industry consultation and current business costs versus allowances. The current negotiations of the external review of the Code of Conduct are proceeding well between the insurance and repair industry delegates. While not yet near completion, what is evident is the need to better promote and encourage better use of the Code by both sides. Further reports will be made to members when the review is completed. Ivor gave an insight into analysing the effectiveness of your own site, monitoring your “hits”, banner advertising, pay per click advertising and structure of a good website. Michael Sheehan, MTA Regions and Divisions AARN repairers meeting in Adelaide The MTA hosted the Australian Accident Repair Network (AARN) on June 2 at MTA House. The meeting covered a broad range of issues and the future direction of the group both in its marketing strategies and also its membership. The AARN group have nine members in South Australia and Frank Zulian has been appointed to the five member board. The group’s manager Geoff Bedford provided video Senior Industrial Officer, gave a presentation on the Fair Work Act and how this legislation applies, emphasising the importance of changes such as flexible work arrangements, parental/personal/carers/ compassionate leave and the importance of employment documentation. Michael also responded presentations from the Melbourne meeting, these presentations featured speaker such as, Mike Preece, John Simpson from RACV in Victoria and Steve O’Brien from DNS Technology. Mike Preece’s presentation was as ever very interesting, and commented on his belief the traditional model of collision repair shop will not survive going forward, this opinion is one that is more and more becoming a reality in the industry.
