Nano Gobies

corals will reveal that you are surrounded by hundreds of pairs of tiny
eyes—eyes that belong to little Eviota or Trimma gobies, among others.
Their bodies are only a few centimeters long. We can easily miss seeing
them, but they are watching us very closely. If we come too close
they disappear like lightning.
Not only do gobies seek out surroundings, such as pink-red calcareous
algae, that match their coloration in order to camouflage themselves,
but they also utilize the strategy of lying still on the reef, a coral,
or a sponge. Any fish that remains completely motionless and blends
