Each summer, a sort of gold rush
takes place in the waters off
Long Island, New York, as
crazed marine aquarium
hobbyists flock to the
inlets and bays of the
south shore in search
of exotic marine life.
The appearance of
these organisms—
most of which are
fishes—is the result
of a combination of
oceanographic and
biological phenomena.
