A teacher who is inducted or activated in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United<br />
States will be granted a military leave of absence for the duration of service plus ninety (90)<br />
days.<br />
3-16.3. Other Credit for Military Service<br />
A teacher, who has served on active duty with any branch of the Armed Forces of the<br />
United States, shall receive course credit for all experience related to education or to his/her<br />
particular subject matter. Such service in each instance shall be as though said teacher were a<br />
member of the bargaining unit prior to such instances and entitled to full benefits thereof.<br />
3-17. Government Test<br />
Each teacher shall be granted his/her regular salary, without loss of pay, when required to<br />
be in attendance for a selective service examination, or other tests required by the United States<br />
government.<br />
3-18. Court Service/Jury Duty<br />
When any regular teacher is summoned to court in connection with <strong>Coventry</strong><br />
School District affairs or in connection with cases in which personal interests of that teacher are<br />
not involved, said teacher shall receive that part of his/her salary that exceeds his/her pay for<br />
court service. Such leave shall establish service credit as established in Sections 3-12 and 3-13.<br />
3-19. Quarantine<br />
There shall be no loss of salary or sick leave allowance when a teacher is subject to<br />
quarantine by order of the Health Department. Such leave shall establish service credit as<br />
established in Sections 3-12 and 3-13.<br />
3-20. <strong>Teacher</strong> Placement Following Leave<br />
A teacher granted a leave of absence for two years or less shall not relinquish his/her<br />
right to the specific assignment, if available, or a substantially equivalent position to the one held<br />
at the time his/her leave was granted.<br />
3-21. Delegation of Authority<br />
The Superintendent may delegate to assistant superintendents, principals, or others<br />
his/her authority to grant certain leaves. The Superintendent shall cause such delegation to be<br />
posted in each school.<br />
3-22. Commencement of Leave<br />
All leaves shall commence on the first full day of absence.<br />
