Superintendent and Alliance President jointly shall make exceptions to the required<br />
attendance, on an individual basis.<br />
6-2.5.4 All vacancies that occur after the beginning of the school year shall be<br />
considered vacant positions for the following school year.<br />
6-2.5.5 Nothing herein prohibits the Superintendent from holding a job fair at<br />
other times with the agreement of the Alliance President<br />
6-2.6. Involuntary Transfers<br />
6-2.6.1. The assignment of teachers by involuntary transfer shall be avoided<br />
whenever possible and will generally take place only in those cases where staffing<br />
alignment must be changed due to the elimination of a program, shift in student<br />
enrollment, decline in student enrollment, or just cause as determined by the School<br />
Committee.<br />
6-2.6.2. The assignment of a teacher to a class within the same subject area at the<br />
Middle School level (grades 6-8) and at the High School (grades 9-12) shall not be<br />
considered as constituting an involuntary transfer.<br />
6-2.7. Assignment Exchanges<br />
The principal shall have flexibility in staffing at the elementary level, to the extent that<br />
staff may exchange assignments after initially established by contract without constituting a<br />
violation, providing the teachers are returned to their initial position for the next year so as to<br />
avoid conflict in staff assignment and teacher rights in regards to reduction in staff, shift or<br />
decline in student enrollment, or elimination of program. The Alliance will work to facilitate<br />
administrative efforts in this regard. Any exchanges made within the scope of this understanding<br />
shall be made only when mutual agreement is reached between the parties affected.<br />
6-3. Other Job Openings<br />
6-3.1. All job openings for which additional compensation is provided including but not<br />
limited to, coaching positions in the school athletic program and teaching positions in the<br />
evening school, summer school and all federally funded programs shall be posted in every<br />
school.<br />
6-3.2. All qualified teachers regularly assigned to the <strong>Coventry</strong> School District during<br />
the school year who have filed written applications shall be employed to work in all programs,<br />
including evening school, summer school, and all federally funded programs before other<br />
personnel from outside the District. Any person presently employed shall not be affected by this<br />
section.<br />
