3-11.5. Assurance of Sabbatical Leave<br />

The Superintendent may meet with the President of the Alliance at least once monthly at<br />

a mutually agreeable time in the Superintendent’s office to consider current requests on file with<br />

the Superintendent. It shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent to insure an adequate<br />

number of teachers for approval in order that the maximum number of sabbatical leaves be<br />

granted.<br />

3-11.6. Return from Sabbatical Leave<br />

Upon completion of a sabbatical leave, the recipient must return to the <strong>Coventry</strong> School<br />

District for one year or twice the duration of the sabbatical leave, whichever period is greater.<br />

Failure to return for reasons within the control of the recipient shall result in repayment of all<br />

sums paid or expended on recipient’s behalf, including the cost of fringe benefits during the time<br />

of sabbatical leave.<br />

3-12. Fringe Benefits on Leave<br />

3-12.1. Fringe Benefits – Paid Leaves<br />

All fringe benefits shall be continued in full by the Committee for a teacher on leave with<br />

full pay or a portion thereof.<br />

3-12.2. Fringe Benefits – Unpaid Sick Leave<br />

Any teacher on leave under Section 3-3. shall have his/her health and dental insurance<br />

continued by the Committee unless he/she is eligible for coverage under a spouse’s health<br />

insurance plan. Each year, any teacher on leave under Section 3-3., who is receiving health<br />

benefits, shall be required to sign an affidavit as to his/her eligibility for any other health<br />

coverage he/she or his/her spouse may have.<br />

In the event that a deficiency remains in the sick pool fund at the end of the school year,<br />

any health or dental cost incurred by the district (Section 3-1) for any unpaid days, shall be added<br />

to the sick pool deficit.<br />

3-13. Credit for Leave Time<br />

A teacher on leave with full pay or a portion thereof shall be given full credit for such<br />

time in all matters concerning his/her professional standing (e.g., seniority, longevity, retirement,<br />

appropriate placement on salary schedule, increments).<br />

3-14. Leave without Pay<br />

The Superintendent shall, upon request, grant a leave of absence to a teacher on tenure as<br />

follows:<br />
