<strong>Natural</strong> <strong>Resources</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>, <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>, NH<br />

resources as a result <strong>of</strong> development. Any change in equilibrium, whe<strong>the</strong>r caused by natural<br />

phenomena or human activity, can cause erosion and landslides. Also, road access can be<br />

difficult where slopes are steep.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Soil Survey <strong>of</strong> Carroll County published in 1977, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Natural</strong> <strong>Resources</strong> Conservation<br />

Service (NRCS) uses <strong>the</strong> following slope categories:<br />

A: 0 – 3%<br />

B: 3 – 8%<br />

C: 8 – 15<br />

D: 15 – 25%<br />

E: >25%<br />

Figure 3 shows steep slopes with a severe potential for development within <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>.<br />

Using data from GIS analysis <strong>of</strong> NRCS soil map unit slope classes as shown on Figure 3, <strong>the</strong><br />

following is a breakdown <strong>of</strong> steep slopes with severe development limitations in <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>:<br />

Although steep slopes can present severe constraints to development, <strong>the</strong> slopes also provide<br />

<strong>Wolfeboro</strong> with various levels <strong>of</strong> higher elevation, including <strong>the</strong> various mountains and summits.<br />

Table 2 lists summits found within <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>, along with <strong>the</strong>ir elevation. These summits are<br />

displayed on Figure 2.<br />
