Incorporate “No-Cut” or “No-Touch” riparian buffers into <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>‟s zoning<br />
ordinances to protect rivers and streams.<br />
Streng<strong>the</strong>n local protection methods for <strong>the</strong> Shoreland Zone due to <strong>the</strong> current legislative<br />
efforts to weaken <strong>the</strong> State Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act, RSA 483-B.<br />
Streng<strong>the</strong>n local protection <strong>of</strong> riparian corridors to maintain water quality and wildlife<br />
habitat.<br />
Protect <strong>the</strong> few remaining undeveloped areas <strong>of</strong> lake and pond frontage.<br />
Consider acquiring land over and adjacent to productive aquifers in order to protect<br />
future municipal water supplies.<br />
Ensure <strong>the</strong> Aquifer Protection Overlay District is being enforced.<br />
Prohibit or restrict new potential contamination sources from locating in a source water<br />
protection area and/or in a wellhead protection area.<br />
Purchase in fee or purchase a conservation easement on <strong>the</strong> remainder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> unprotected<br />
lands in <strong>the</strong> Upper Beech Pond Municipal Watershed District.<br />
Encourage use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Open Space Subdivision provisions in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Wolfeboro</strong> Zoning<br />
Ordinance.<br />
Develop monitoring strategies for lands that are already protected by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Town</strong>.<br />
Require Baseline Documentation Reports for lands to be placed in conservation as a<br />
result <strong>of</strong> municipal zoning. Use <strong>the</strong>se Baseline Documentation Reports to create a file <strong>of</strong><br />
conserved properties for use by <strong>the</strong> Conservation Commission in <strong>the</strong> exercise <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
monitoring duties.<br />
Vernal Pools provide a unique habitat and crucial breeding grounds for a number <strong>of</strong><br />
species. Efforts should be made to protect this habitat and species it supports.<br />
Create and implement a vernal pool ordinance that identifies and maps vernal pools;<br />
Identify and map vernal pools on subdivision plans and site plans in order to provide an<br />
opportunity to mitigate <strong>the</strong> impacts to <strong>the</strong>se sensitive areas;<br />
Educate <strong>the</strong> public on <strong>the</strong> importance behind vernal pools and how to identify and<br />
document <strong>the</strong>se pools.<br />
Keep log landings, roads and trails out <strong>of</strong> vernal pools and <strong>the</strong> area adjacent to <strong>the</strong>m as<br />
this leads to massive annual mortality and local extinctions.<br />
<strong>Natural</strong> <strong>Resources</strong> Inventory, <strong>Wolfeboro</strong>, NH 74
