History AS / A LEVEL D112 What does the course involve? This course examines modern world History, with a focus on the 20th Century world. We take a look at the Vietnam War and the European Dictatorships before World War Two and an in depth study of Britain from 1951 to 2007. A Level History aims to analyse various topics to discover why certain events took place and why they led to a particular outcome, with suggestions of the most important factors and discussion of the arguments about the past we come across. Standard Entry Requirements See page 9 for details. Additional Entry Requirements Grade B in GCSE English Language or English Literature. How will I be assessed Two exams in the first year, one in January and one in the summer. In the second year, one piece of coursework and an exam in the summer. What can I do after the course? Most students go on to university, studying courses like History, Law and English. There are a range of jobs History can lead to such as Teacher, Politician, Museum Work, Researcher, Journalist – the list is endless! Information and Communication Technology AS / A LEVEL D113 What does the course involve? This course is designed for people who are everyday users of computers and who want to know more about ICT generally. Awareness of the impact of information technology on individuals, organisations and society is covered in some detail. Both AS and A2 courses are concerned with the safety, security and communication of stored information, in the context of a sound academic knowledge base. The A2 component extends all these themes. Standard Entry Requirements See page 9 for details. How will I be assessed AS Level has two written exams each lasting 1.5 hours. A2 Level Module 3 - One 2 hour examination Module 4 - Coursework project report (worth 20% of the whole A Level). What can I do after the course?
