Department of Personnel
On-Line Access to Job Class Specifications and
Personnel Rules
The Department of Personnel (DOP) had available the job class specifications
and rules in an electronic format, but in order to access it, users had to download
and install a massive computer help file, even if they only needed one document
in the file. This process took from 7-40 minutes, depending on the computer
system of the user. In order to have the most recent information, the customer
would have to use this time-consuming downloading process on a monthly basis.
The project team converted the files to an Internet-friendly format and set up an
interface so users can access the information directly off DOP’s website.
Customers can now access the specific document they need, rather than the
entire file, and it now takes less than a minute to do so.
Results
« The process is much easier and less time consuming.
« There is more time available for DOP staff members to quickly respond to
other customer requests.
« Immediate savings of time and money on printing and mailing costs.
