Here A Vet, There A Vet, Everywhere A Vet, Vet…<br />

The Medical Transportation Program at the Veterans Home in Retsil is over 9<br />

years old and “running out of gas.” It used to be that a veteran’s medical<br />

appointments in the community were first e-mailed to the Transportation<br />

Department and then printed out and entered into their old system. Now, with<br />

the addition of a new software program, all medical appointments and<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation needed <strong>for</strong> billing appropriate agencies and vendors <strong>for</strong> the<br />

approximately 325 veterans at the Home are included into one package. The<br />

new program is customized to fit the needs of the Home, able to track resident<br />

appointments individually as well as by groups, publish daily appointment<br />

schedules at each user station (rather than by hard copy), produce needed<br />

reports <strong>for</strong> Medicaid reimbursement, and is Y2K compliant!<br />

<strong>Results</strong><br />

★ A new program has been designed, <strong>for</strong>matted, and is in operation.<br />

★ The new process is currently being reviewed by the Quality Initiative Team at<br />

Retsil.<br />

★ The Food Service Department has been able to identify food wastage and<br />

labor savings with up to date in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

★ The ward clerks are now able to access up to date in<strong>for</strong>mation, print out<br />

schedules, and enter new in<strong>for</strong>mation into the system.<br />

★ Business Services can now attach copies of individual resident appointment<br />

schedules when billing Medicaid.<br />
