Nutrition
During the 2007–2008 school
year, Nutrition Services produced
and served 32,640 more meals
than the year prior. This included
9,540 more lunches and 23,100
more breakfasts.
The department also spent
time evaluating various customers
and their expectations. Findings
conclude:
•Primary customers are the
students who indicated satisfaction
with the meal program through
participation and lack of food
waste. Students prefer certain entrees
and would like their favorites
repeated on a weekly basis.
•Parents are another customer.
When they believe meals are a
good value they will encourage
their children to eat at school. Parents
indicate they would like more
variety in the menus. Additionally
during the past two years, they
have positively commented about
the Health Bars with fresh veggies
and at least two servings of fruit at
lunch.
•The Cheyenne community is
a much larger customer. Lunch is
served to 60 percent of enrolled
students; breakfast is served to 20
percent. In terms of community,
this equates to serving lunch to
15 percent of the entire Cheyenne
population on a daily basis. Nutrition
Services wants to provide
healthy meals for all students!
•Internal customers are those
within the district—teachers, principals
and other employees.
•Finally, many vendors are
customers as well as service providers.
A good relationship with
vendors allows Nutrition Services
to provide approximately 10,000
meals a day.
Information about menus, pricing,
free- and reduced-meal applications,
healthy snacks and fundraising
ideas are available on the
Bus Transportation
District Transportation
specialists transport
students on a variety of
rural and city routes with
the majority of resources
used from 6–9 a.m. for the
morning routes and
2–5 p.m. for afternoon
routes. Additionally, they
drive students on field trips
and out-of-town activity
trips.
All districts throughout
Wyoming assist one
another in the maintenance
of activity buses to support
out-of-town activity trips.
Most administrators/
supervisors throughout the
state are available by phone
24/7.
Throughout these miles,
safety is the drivers’ No. 1
priority with new drivers
taking part in a training
program that is one of the
best in the tri-state area.
This 80-hour comprehensive
training package results
in each driver obtaining a
commercial drivers’ license
with all necessary endorsements.
In addition, drivers
learn about CPR/first aid,
defensive driving, special
needs, discipline and a
number of other subjects.
All drivers receive an additional
48 hours of training
every year.
