Robert J. Brass is a partner of the firm of Brian J. Aloia, LLC in Bloomfield, where he
concentrates his practice in white collar criminal defense and other litigation in federal, state and
municipal courts.
Admitted to practice in New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the District of
New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court, Mr. Brass is a former Deputy Attorney
General with the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice in the Office of the Attorney General,
where he prosecuted a variety of cases involving insurance fraud and environmental crimes.
He is a Trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association, where he serves as Representative to
the New Jersey Supreme Court Model Criminal Jury Charge Committee, and is a member of the
Judicial Administration and NJICLE Advisory Committees. He is Past Chair of the NJSBA
Criminal Law Section and the Ad Hoc Committee on the County Prosecutor’s Study
Commission, serves as Trustee Liaison to the Criminal Law and the Anti-Trust Sections, and is
a former member of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Committee.
Mr. Brass was a faculty member of the Attorney General’s Trial Advocacy Institute which
provides advanced and basic NITA format trial advocacy skills training, to Deputy Attorney
General, criminal and civil, and Assistant County Prosecutors. He has lectured for ICLE, the
New Jersey State Bar Association, the National Association of Attorneys General and the
Division of Criminal Justice, and has been qualified by the Superior Court of New Jersey as an
Expert in the field of Polygraph.
Mr. Brass received his B.A. from Seton Hall University and his J.D. from Seton Hall University
School of Law. Prior to and during law school, he was Supervising Investigator in Charge of the
Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Polygraph Unit and Investigator in the Office’s Economic
Crime and Official Corruption Section.
