• A general practitioner, or GP is a medical practitioner who provides<br />
primary care and specializes in family medicine. A general practitioner<br />
treats acute and chronic illnesses and provides preventive care and<br />
health education for all ages and both sexes.<br />

• GPs are the gatekeepers to the NHS, controlling which patients are<br />
referred to hospital or specialist care as well as managing patient care<br />
