he <strong>Manitoba</strong> Senior Men’s Championship<br />

t for men 50 years and over is run under the<br />

name Strathcona Senior Men’s Championship. In<br />

April 1985, the Strathcona <strong>Curling</strong> Club, through<br />

its trustees Jack Callum, Lyle Henry, and Bruce<br />

Hudson, presented trust funds to the MCA to<br />

sponsor the Provincial Senior Men’s <strong>Curling</strong><br />

Championships in perpetuity.<br />

The Strathcona Trophy is presented for annual<br />

competition commencing with the 1985-86 season<br />

and is to recognise the contribution to curling by<br />

the Strathcona at the executive and competitive<br />

levels nationally, provincially and locally.<br />

In addition to the trophy the winner and runnerup<br />

receive individual plaques. The winners also<br />

receive Buffalo crests, provincial jackets, and shirts.<br />

A banner is also presented to the winning team to<br />

hang in their club as a reminder of their success.<br />

The winner of the Strathcona Senior Men’s<br />

Provincial Championship will represent <strong>Manitoba</strong><br />

at the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship.<br />

Last year’s provincial championship was played<br />

at the Heather <strong>Curling</strong> Club, where the Kelly<br />

Robertson team from the Neepawa <strong>Curling</strong> Club<br />

defeated the John Bubbs team from the Fort Rouge<br />

<strong>Curling</strong> Club to claim the Senior Championship.<br />

They went on to the Canadian Championship held<br />

in Digby, Nova Scotia where they finished with a<br />

record of 10 and 1 and in first place which gave<br />

them a bye to the final. They played Alberta in<br />

the final and defeated them by a score of 7 to 5.<br />

They will compete at the World Senior Men’s<br />

Championship in Taarnby, Denmark from April<br />

14-21, 2012.<br />

A World Senior Men’s and Women’s<br />

Championship was played in St. Paul, U.S.A. April<br />

15-24, 2011.<br />

The 2011-2012 Strathcona Senior Men’s Championship<br />

will be played at the Beausejour <strong>Curling</strong><br />

Club from February 23-27, 2012. The Canadian<br />

Senior Men’s Championship will be held in Abbotsford,<br />

BC from March 17-24, 2012.<br />
