Importance of Water to Humans<br />
‣ The water cycle ensures that there is always water on the earth.<br />
‣ Water is important to all living things. It is important to humans<br />
because 2/3 of our body weight is water. We also depend on water for<br />
transportation <strong>and</strong> recreation. Here are some ways water is important<br />
to humans.<br />
• Recreation- people go to beaches <strong>and</strong> pools to swim <strong>and</strong> have fun.<br />
Without water, people cannot swim.<br />
• Transportation- people use ferries to travel from isl<strong>and</strong> to isl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
Barges travel from continent to continent or isl<strong>and</strong> to isl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
• Chemical reactions- our bodies need water to carry out daily<br />
functions, such as digesting foods <strong>and</strong> flushing our body organs.<br />
• Prevent dehydration- the body is mainly water <strong>and</strong> without it cells<br />
would die. A person could survive for a month without food but only<br />
a few days without water.<br />
• Water is important in farming foods crops that we eat. Plants need<br />
the water to grow, <strong>and</strong> we eat the plants or their fruits.<br />
• Households use water to clean, bathe <strong>and</strong> cook. Water is important<br />
in keeping our bodies clean.<br />
• Water is important in putting out fires.<br />
