2.4 SEARCH CRITERIA: LANGUAGES
In concluding which languages to investigate, considerations were given to the
following: the census data on the major language groups represented in Western
Australia (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2002), the survey results of Western
Australian clinicians surrounding which languages were most represented in their
clinical practice; and on the experience of the Project Management Team, all
members of which are clinicians and have wide experience with a clinical
population from CALD backgrounds. Surveys were sent to 23 Clinic Managers
belonging to the Western Australian Health Department, of whom 12 (56%)
responded. This response rate indicates the survey may not have been of great
relevance to some clinic managers. This possibility was supported by telephone
discussions with a number of Clinic Managers (particularly, those in regional areas
of Western Australia). The following search terms were selected:
