Note that alternative spellings (e.g., Filipino, Philippino or Pilipino) and lexical
variations (Vietnam, Vietnamese) were used when appropriate. It should also be
noted that Afghan and Yugoslav are not languages but are included as these were
used as search criteria.
2.5 SEARCH CRITERIA: RESEARCH ARTICLES
Ordinarily the search was restricted according to the following criteria, as agreed
by the Project Management Team.
• Articles published after 1990 (including data not older than 1990) - the project
specified that instruments were to be currently valid;
• Instruments were for use with adults aged 18 to 65;
• The research was published in peer reviewed journals;
• The research paper was in English, as the project did not have resources for
research in other languages.
Articles were prioritized for detailed review using the following criteria:
The article described a true validation study - a study which discusses
translation methodology, internal consistency, factor analysis,
diagnostic utility and reported relationships or correlations with
theoretically appropriate variables;
