education and university and offer you a wider
choice of employment opportunities.
Experience
The College of West Anglia is one of the
largest providers of A-levels in Norfolk and
Cambridgeshire – there are over 300 students
taking A-level programmes at our King’s Lynn campus.
Success
As well as being rated good by Ofsted, our A-level
results are among the best in the area – the pass rate in
2013 was 98%. Each year, successful students go on to
top universities across the country.
Why take A-levels at college?
College is very different from school, you are treated like
an adult right from the start. You will learn how to manage
your own time outside of lectures and develop new skills.
There are no bells, assemblies or uniform – you are free to
take control of your own learning in a sociable and mature
atmosphere. It is hard work but help is always on hand if
you need it – during your studies you will be supported by
your personal tutor who will regularly review your progress
and guide you in your next steps.
What do I study on an A-level programme?
The A-level programme is a two-year course. In year one
you may take up to 4 subjects at AS level. In year two
(known as A2), you can choose to continue with some or
all of the same subjects to make up a full A-level in each or
you can choose some new AS level subjects.
How do I use A-levels to apply for university?
Entry to university and colleges of higher education is
worked out on a points system – all your qualifications
add up to give you a score that determines your entry to
higher education. For example, an A grade at A2 level
(full A-level) is worth 120 points and an E grade is worth 40
points. These scores are halved for AS level qualifications.
