Education doesn’t
have to mean
staying in school
The government is increasing the age to which all young people in England
must continue in education or training. This will mean that students who
started year 11 in 2013 will have to continue in either education or training
until they are 18 years of age.
Raising the Participation Age (RPA) does not mean you have to stay in school
or go to 6th form. You are able to choose one of the following options once
you have finished year 11
• Full-time education, such as school, college or home education
• An apprenticeship
• Part-time education or training if you are employed, self-employed or
volunteering for at least 20 hours a week
