The co-operation with SYKE in the development of the fractional snow cover product is continuing
informally. It is hoped that also official co-operation will be possible in future validation of the
product.
H13/SN-OBS-4:
The SWE product in the non mountainous areas is related to ESA GlobSnow NRT processing demo.
SWE product will be developed from demo to full operative system within H-SAF frame. Developing
includes further improvements with the SWE algorithm.
H31/SN-OBS-0G and H32/SN-OBS-0P:
The MSG/SEVIRI SC products and METOP/AVHRR SC product were LSA SAF products during the
CDOP. These will be produced and distributed using the LSA SAF infrastructure during the CDOP-2.
They will be processed and distributed by LSA-SAF. Thus the co-operation with LSA-SAF is essential.
The contact to the weather forecasting users of the product will be kept alive by LSA-SAF. H-SAF will
take care of the maintenance of the processing codes and support implementation of updated
versions. LSA-SAF is in charge of the operations. In the future it is seen that all operational
processing of snow products will take place in H-SAF unless users/EUMETSAT express a different
wish. Thus this divided development/processing between LSA-SAF and H-SAF is seen as a temporary
phase.
H34/SN-OBS-1G and H35/SN-OBS-1P:
H34/SN-OBS-1G succeeds earlier products H10 and H31 and H35/SN-OBS-1P succeeds products H12
and H32.
2.3.10.4 Joint Precipitation Working Group
A Joint Precipitation Group dedicated to define the road map of federate activities about
precipitation shall be defined care of H-SAF consortium. The JPWG should be composed by
representatives of institutes in charge of precipitation parameters from CMSAF, H-SAF, NWCSAF and
CAF.
It first of all will define TOR, and the competence of defining and finalizing the relevant federate
activities, addressed into the CDOP-2 Project Plan of the relevant SAF.
The H-SAF offers the chairman.
The JPWG can coordinate the shared activities from the SAFs and CAF, considering the commitments
of H-SAF, NWCSAF, CMSAF and CAF:
H-SAF to generate and distribute procipitation products and validation services;
NWCSAF generation and distribution of portable SW packages for local use;
CMSAF to generate Climate Data Records;
CAF to investigate the precipitation on Globe.
H-SAF can propose the following guidelines for structuring the interactions between H-SAF and Third
Parties:
FA on Validation with NWCSAF responsible of PC PPS output provision, H-SAF
responsible for validation.
FA with CAF to migrate the service of precipitation on Full Disk region to H03B an to
explore the algorithm to retrieve the precipitation on Globe.
