MA Intermediate Products Development
Development and tuning of the algorithms for the product H32 already being developed.
FF Intermediate Products Development
To study possible improvements using new approaches, to calibrate, characterise snow products (and their
errors) existing at the end of CDOP for non-mountainous areas.
Merged Products Development
To study possible improvements of merging mountainous and non-mountainous snow products, and to
characterise the error structures resulting from the merging.
Objectives and tasks:
Activities in Poland (IMWM) – Responsible Institute
1. Monitor and coordinate the work performances in the frame of OE 5100.
2. Collecting the participant results and provide reports.
3. Perform the analysis of possible product utility for hydrological tasks.
4. Efforts on blending and merging techniques to improve level of different H-SAF products assimilation.
5. Development of the tools for data format conversion acceptable by hydrological models.
6. Works on snow and soil moisture products assimilation.
Activities in Belgium (IRM)
Preliminary evaluation of the products by comparison with standard input data (precipitation) or with
hydrological model variable (soil moisture, snow) will be pursued. Development of assimilation tool is in
progress. The test sites will be enlarged to most parts of the Scheldt and Meuse basins for precipitation, to the
main sub-catchments in the Ardennes for the snow and to a set of catchments in the loamy region in central
Belgium for the soil moisture. Hydrological validation procedure and tools will be adapted. New experiments
will be prepared to assimilate soil moisture and snow products in the hydrological model.
Activities in Bulgaria (NIMH)
Activities: Set of input fields for the hydrological models facilitating the comparison of the hydrological
products resulting from different inputs, such as: ground data, H-SAF data, combination of them will be
prepared. The idea is to use the ground observations as “true values”, but of point type. The H-SAF data will
