The Shuswap is home to an extensive trail
network that offers something for everyone.
From simple strolls on community paths, to alpine hikes in
snow-dotted and flower-strewn meadows, to walks on the boardwalk,
to waterfalls and meandering forest excursions, you can satisfy all
your soles’ desires.
The Shuswap’s trails are often characterized as an Appalachian-style
network of cross-country hiking, biking, ski, snowshoe and equestrian
trail routes. The terrain varies widely, from mossy forest floors to alpine
meadows and wetlands.
Well-developed backcountry roads and boating routes provide access to
remote areas, hidden gems waiting for curious adventurers. This land is
home to numerous tree species, wildflowers and mushrooms, and you
can find yourself in the
company of animals
both large (moose!)
and small (mice!).
The Shuswap
Highland, the
Monashee Mountains and
their sub-ranges offer endless
opportunities for adventure and
are well known for hiking, biking
and horseback riding. In and
around Salmon Arm, you’ll find
an exceptional system of cycling
routes as well. Dismount to take
a close look at the marshland,
take to the countryside for a
quiet rural ride, or head to the
highlands to test your skills on
trails ranging from gentle to flatout
thrilling.
The Shuswap’s trail network
often takes visitors through
and alongside the traditional
territory of the Secwepemc First
Nations peoples. With all that
these lands have to offer and
as the home of the great spirit
for eternity,
we politely
request that
all sojourners,
hikers,
wanderers and
adventures
obey signage,
respect
sensitive
cultural locales
and help to ensure that the
landscape retains
its captivating
beauty for
generations
to come.
Our trail network
just keeps getting
better. Guided by a vision of
overnight facilities to link
existing accommodations
- B&B’s, campgrounds
and resorts with a series
of discrete backcountry
wilderness cabins – we have
created opportunities for a
point-to-point (or hut-to-hut),
outdoor travel experience
amongst our stunning natural
landscape. The Shuswap Trail
Alliance, an award-winning
initiative among regional
partners, is dedicated to
making the way through our
parks, our communities and
around the Shuswap as clean
and as green as possible.
