Tiffany collected cuttings and ideas from magazines to help her decide which decorating styles appealed. “My goal was to achieve simply decorated spaces filled with vintage and classic furniture, and to use vibrant artwork and patterned rugs to add colour and interest. We kept the paint colour of the entire house white so we could inject bright, strong, fun colours downstairs and use softer accents for the bedrooms upstairs.” To that end, the downstairs spaces have artwork, rugs and furniture with a riotous ’60s influence that’s all about dramatic bursts of colour; reds, oranges and yellow. The living areas feature distinctive pieces of ’50s Hans Wegner furniture and other vintage Danish pieces, specially purchased for this house. Their classic good looks hang together beautifully with Tiffany and Gavin’s existing antique pieces and contemporary artworks. Upstairs, the rooms are more classic in style and the bedrooms have been decorated in a softer palette, with loop-pile carpeting for cosiness. “This was our first renovation and we’re extremely pleased with the quality and results of the project,” says Tiffany. “It has been very satisfying to have complete freedom of choice in creating a bespoke house that encompasses out style and taste.” # Building design: Roger Cuperus Drafting & Design, Subiaco, WA: (08) 6161 3424.
