H&G OCTOBER
Renovation gold
O
ther
magazines have rich lists, luxe lists, even Bachelor of the
Year. This month at H&G we’ve lined up ‘tradies worth talking
about’, the guys who’ve impressed clients and peers alike with
their hard work, innovation and dedication. Good sports all, they
downed tools just long enough to strike a pose.
The four fellows featured (page 88) typify the talent to be found in
H&G’s Little Black Book (LBB) . They’re the kind of people you want on
the job when you’re considering home improvements, large or small.
For those who missed it last year, the updated 2014 edition of the LBB
– launches September 1 – is free when you download the Australian
House & Garden app from the App Store. It contains the names of
every trade professional to have appeared in the H&G pages over the
past six years, along with highly recommended people from industry
bodies, readers (thank you!), and other reputable sources. It’s gold for
anyone in renovation mode, or those thinking about getting started.
Among the interiors specialists listed in the LBB are the 10 firms that
whipped up amazing rooms with donated goods for the recent Design
for Mirabel (DFM) charity event. DFM was a huge success, and you can
see for yourself how superbly it all came together (page 51). As media
partner, Australian House & Garden was thrilled to be along for the ride,
watching as this great idea reached its logistics-defying conclusion. It is
exciting to know that a purpose-built, architect-designed house for the
Mirabel Foundation and the children it supports is now within reach.
As you might expect from a Renovation Special, there are eight
wonderful home makeovers in this issue and I hope you come away
from the magazine with plenty of ideas to transfer to your own
quarters. In addition to all the fabulous details, one quote really
resonated with the team, so I’ll let Suzanne from Perth have the
final word: “Marry someone with the same taste”.
“I love old homes that have been
transformed into contemporary gems
without losing their charm,” says
Deborah, who takes us on a tour of a
Sydney terrace (Personal Space, page
124). “It was so cleverly designed –
there was interest in every corner.”
“Writing about pets for H&G over the
past seven years, I’ve been amazed
at the attachments people form to
particular breeds. In researching this
month’s topic, dachshunds, I recalled
my aunt’s dog, Pippy, a kind and noble
animal if ever there was one.”
