Pre-existing existing Conditions• If a worker’s injury is an aggravation of a pre-existingcondition, benefits are the same as for a brand newinjury• However, once the aggravation resolves, benefits are nolonger payable• Can be traumatic or occupational• Physician should be clear about what aspects of thepatient’s condition is pre-existing existing and what has beenaggravated• History of prior conditions and pertinent medical recordsare required• The burden to establish the claim is greater as theinjured worker has to show that the preexisting conditionmaterially worsened.
