The DAP project streng<strong>the</strong>ned institutional support <strong>for</strong>serving children with special health care needs <strong>and</strong> children of parents with special healthcare needs in a <strong>culturally</strong> <strong>appropriate</strong> <strong>and</strong> sensitive manner.In addition, YCHC grew its deaf outreach services from five patients to over 70 patients, allof whom have some <strong>for</strong>m of health care coverage, in two years. The YCHC has become <strong>the</strong>provider of choice <strong>for</strong> deaf <strong>and</strong> hard of hearing children <strong>and</strong> families in New Mexico, <strong>and</strong> hasmaintained <strong>and</strong> improved its ability to provide <strong>culturally</strong> competent care <strong>for</strong> this population.LESSONS LEARNED/NEXT STEPS. The YCHC continues to take a focused interest inchildren with special health care needs, including a large number of deaf children <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>irfamilies. In <strong>the</strong> future, YCHC plans to use telemedicine to provide education <strong>and</strong> supportservices to o<strong>the</strong>r primary care providers around <strong>the</strong> state <strong>and</strong> to coordinate long term followup of neonates who failed <strong>the</strong> newborn hearing screen.WHO TO CONTACT.
