JURIS DOCTOR DEGREE 21year (for full-time students) or in the evening during the next academic year (for parttimestudents), unless upon a showing of good cause a waiver of this policy has beengranted by the dean of students; courses offered through summer study abroad programssponsored by other ABA-accredited law schools are not subject to this restriction.Internships offered for credit will not be credited toward the Juris Doctor degree.Joint Juris Doctor–Master’s Degree Programs<strong>The</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> offers joint degree programs with four other schools of the <strong>University</strong>.<strong>The</strong> J.D.–M.P.H. is offered with the <strong>School</strong> of Public Health and Health Services. <strong>The</strong>J.D.–M.B.A. is offered with the <strong>School</strong> of Business. <strong>The</strong> J.D.–M.A. is offered with theElliott <strong>School</strong> of International Affairs. With Columbian College of Arts and Sciences theJ.D.–M.P.A., J.D.–M.P.P., and J.D.–M.A. (in the field of history with a concentration inU.S. legal history; in the field of women’s studies; and in the field of public policy with aconcentration in women’s studies) are offered.Students must be admitted both to the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> and, separately, to the school thatconfers the master’s degree. Each school must separately approve a student’s applicationto pursue a joint degree program. <strong>The</strong> joint degrees must be conferred simultaneouslyand only after all requirements for both degrees have been met.Once a student has been admitted to both schools as a joint degree candidate, thefirst year of study must be devoted exclusively to the prescribed law curriculum. After thefirst year of law studies, the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> will allow 12 credit hours of course work completedin the master’s program to count toward completion of the 84 credit hours requiredfor the law degree. <strong>The</strong> grade of CR (Credit) or NC (No Credit) will be recordedfor such courses; a student must receive a grade of at least B to receive a grade of Credit.Grades of Credit and No Credit resulting from courses taken in other GW schools willcount toward the total of 17 hours allowed under the Credit/No Credit option. <strong>Law</strong>students receive 1 credit hour for each 700 minutes of scheduled class time in a semester;therefore, a law student may in some cases earn only 2 credits for a course offered byanother school of the <strong>University</strong> for 3 credits.A number of other regulations govern the joint degree programs. Students interestedin entering one of these programs should consult with the appropriate admissions officesand the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> Dean of Students Office or designee of the senior associate dean foracademic affairs.❦
